Purpose of Department

Istanbul Gelişim University Faculty of Sports Sciences Coaching Education Department; aims to provide a comprehensive approach to teaching the theoretical foundations of sports science and practical coaching skills, to train coaches who can carry out training planning, implementation and evaluation processes specific to different sports based on scientific principles, who are committed to ethical values, have developed communication and leadership skills, and possess a lifelong learning awareness. In line with this, the programme aims to enable students to acquire the competencies to comprehend and analyse their level of knowledge in sports science, implement and evaluate training processes, generate innovative solutions for performance enhancement, and create safe, inclusive, and sustainable training environments in individual and team sports.

 

 


Target of Department

The Coaching Education Department aims to train coaches who can plan and implement training processes for performance sports and mass sports based on scientific principles, taking into account the requirements of national and international sports systems. The programme focuses on enhancing the quality of life in society and training qualified coaches who can compete at an international level by fostering individuals who are open to change and development, capable of critical thinking, research and production, committed to ethical values, and with advanced leadership and communication skills.

 


Career Opportunities

The Coaching Education Programme offers its graduates the opportunity to develop a professional career in various levels and areas of sport. Graduates of the programme can play an active role in conducting sport-specific training in sports clubs based on scientific principles and can be involved in applications aimed at athlete development and performance enhancement. Graduates who can practise the coaching profession within public institutions, local administrations and sports-related structures can also work as professional coaches in physical fitness and healthy living centres operating in the private sector. Graduates aiming for a career in education can gain the right to teach in public and private educational institutions if they complete the necessary pedagogical qualifications. Graduates wishing to pursue academic development can continue their postgraduate education programmes and conduct academic work at universities, gaining the opportunity to pursue an academic career in education and research activities.


Departments Allowing Horizontal Transfer

Students enrolled in the Coaching Education Programme may transfer internally within the university to other faculties and colleges, provided they meet the conditions specified in the relevant legislation. In addition, students may transfer to other universities' Coaching Education programmes or programmes with similar content, in accordance with the principles determined by the Higher Education Council.


Departments Allowing Vertical Transfer

There is no opportunity for vertical transfer from associate degree programmes to the Coaching Education Department. Vertical transfer procedures are not applicable to this programme under the relevant legislation.
